Give me Shelter
Tina Frundt is one of Washington D.C.’s leading specialists in protecting children from sex trafficking.
Produced by The Guardian, this documentary explores powerful themes of child abuse, neglect, innocence, community, and resilience.
We were deeply honored to be invited to create a series of animations that add visual richness and humanity to this important story, one that resonates across cultures.

Protecting the identities of the children involved was our most sacred responsibility.
We opted to rotoscope frame by frame over the film footage. We discovered that it was important to have a hand feel distinction to the animations. This way, meant that the stories of the young women shone through, without distraction and with warmth and authenticity. There was around 30 shots we rotoscoped, and we are proud of every single one.

We produced two fully animated sequences to accompany the story of a young girl who shared her experience via phone.
We approached her story by identifying its key themes, using the metaphors of “Pandora’s Box” and “The House Always Wins” to inform every creative decision. From concept and style frames to the final animation.
